This policy explains what information Solar Melon (“we”) collects when you visit solarmelon.com and how we use it. We’ve tried to keep it short and plain.
Information you give us
- Contact form. If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them only to reply to you. We don’t add you to a mailing list.
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, along with your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Your name, website and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is not.
Spam protection
We use Akismet, a service run by Automattic, to screen comments and form submissions for spam. What you submit, together with your IP address and browser details, is sent to Akismet for this check. You can read Automattic’s privacy policy.
If you leave a comment, a scrambled string created from your email address (called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see whether you have a profile picture there.
Cookies
- If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies so you don’t have to type them again. These cookies last for one year.
- People who log in to manage the site get login cookies. Regular visitors don’t need to log in.
- We may use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. When it’s on, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, your general location, and your device and browser. You can opt out with Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, the pages requested and browser details. These are used for security and troubleshooting.
The solar calculator
Our solar calculator runs entirely in your browser. The numbers you enter aren’t sent to us or stored.
Links to other sites
Our guides link to other websites, such as government agencies and research sources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which apply once you leave solarmelon.com.
How long we keep information
We keep contact messages for as long as we need them to reply and follow up. Comments and their details are kept so we can show them and recognize follow-up comments from the same person.
Sharing
We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers described above, or when the law requires it.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete personal information we have about you, such as a comment or a message you sent. Just use our contact page. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local privacy laws.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, for example if we add advertising or affiliate links, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
